Press Conference

Good morning! I want to thank you all for being here this morning.
We're all familiar with the famous quotation: "The only way for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing."
Well, I'm sick of it. Six months of Federal and State news that expects us to welcome change that will deny our children and grandchildren the America we have all been blessed to live in. Six months of State news that resounds with corruption, jail, and a proposed $980-million ---excuse me, make that a $990-million …tax increase that even the Democrat Governor rejected.
And, here we are, in a conservative county with a Representative who voted for this $980-million tax increase 38 times … that's right … Hugh Holliman voted for a tax increase, that was rejected by a Democrat Governor, 38 times!
It's for this reason, and many others, that today I am announcing my candidacy for District 81, NC House of Representative, to reflect the conservative values of Davidson County, and respectfully represent the people of Davidson County.
Ten years is enough for any Legislator; after that length of time, all lawmakers tend to get a bad case of Raleigh-itis, and this is especially true when they spend as little time in their District as Hugh Holliman does. Everybody knows Hugh owns a house here, but seldom dwells in it. And, I don't blame him; if my wife lived in Durham, and had a high-paying job there, I'd want to be there with her too.
Ten years is enough. Let's look at the Record for the current Session alone
Hugh co-sponsored a Bill of Resolution CONGRATULATING Barak Obama on his election to the Presidency of the United States; therefore, he shares in and supports the catastrophic condition we find ourselves in, including Bailouts for our failed American industries; Universal Health Care, also known as Obamacare; and crippling tax increases.
I'm sick of it … at the national and state level. But I know, if conservative people do nothing, evil will prevail, robbing us of our liberty, stealing our money, threatening our children's futures, and ultimately changing the meaning of America.
As your County Commissioner, I've seen the evil in action. Requirements imposed at the National and State level left to the County for funding. The buck is passed down the system … letting the Washington and Raleigh people deny increasing your taxes, all the while leaving crushing cost management at the level of government least able to deal with it. The budget (SB202) that has been just released will cost our county over $3 million in revenue and that does not include the 15% increase on the sales tax that we will have to pay. Adding insult to injury, the budget for this Session is exactly the same as the ACTUAL RECEIPTS for 2008. The cuts they talk about are based on the 2008 Budget projections that failed to materialize.
I'm sick that that irresponsible budgeting and deception is strengthened and supported by the likes of Hugh Holliman.
Therefore, I'm stepping forward, offering a conservative alternative to the Obama-madness underway.
A recent email asked, what difference would your election to the 81st District of the NC House of Representatives make?
1. My election to the State House will weaken the out-of-control tax and spend mentality that currently dominates our legislature.
2. It will send a message: That the people are still in control, and are retaking their Country and State, and,
3. My election will encourage other conservatives in the State, who are now standing by as evil prevails, to enter the arena and, by 2010, conceivably give the people a General Assembly guided by conservative principles of spending and representation.
One thing is for sure: If we do nothing, evil will continue to prevail.
